One thing we can avoid doing is hemming pants. Because they’re too big and you haven’t figured out how to tie them without causing a lot of bother, the brand new pair that you bought last season? This indicates that you were born at a lower altitude. Oh, the misery this has caused me!

You needn’t worry about it! Using an invisible hemstitch, I’ll teach how to hem pants in a video tutorial here. It’s likely that many of you have this stitch and are unsure of its significance. Perhaps you mistook it for a simple stitch in the design. You may have a foot like this in your sewing arsenal, but you’re not sure what it’s for. With a regular sewing machine foot, the blind hem stitch can be made. After watching the video, you’ll be able to figure out your own guideline point!

How are your pants?

Pants, footwear, and the wearer’s preference all play a role in determining how much hem allowance is required. What one person considers to be “just right” may be entirely different for another.

Wearing your jeans to the floor will cause the hem to fray and eventually fall off. When wearing shoes, the rear of the jeans should be about 1/2 inch higher than the floor, according to general rule.

Of course, everyone has their own preferences. When she wore high heels, one of my coworkers wanted her pants to glide across the floor without slipping. In order for the wearer to see the length, make sure you have a low-level mirror in your closet.

1. You can pin the pants to ensure they are the right length.

The owner of the item must wear it (along with the right footwear) while you hem it to verify that you get the desired length. It’s best if they can do it in front of a mirror.

Anyone who says “hem them 2 inches” or “my inseam measures 30 inches” is a liar. In order for you to see how they look in the jeans, always ask them to put them on and pin them.

2. Measure the New Hemline

Should the new hemline be wider or narrower than the one it replaces? Dress pants and Khakis often have a 1-inch hem. Trimming jeans in this manner is the standard.

Turn the pants inside out, then put them back on. Use a tape measure or hem gauge to measure 2′′ over the pinned fold line to get a one-inch hem on your garment.

Jean hems that measure 1 1/2 inches over the fold should only be a half-inch wide when sewn.

3. Cut off the Excess Fabric

Turn the pants inside out and trim the excess fabric with high-quality sewing shears where you’ve noted. Take a look at my favorite sewing tools.

4. Press the New Hem

The pants are then transferred to the ironing board after being turned inside out a second time.

One inch (or half an inch for jeans) of the bottom edge should be turned up and pressed. To be on the safe side, a gauge is a great tool to have around.

As a final step, turn the edge upwards in the same manner. Check to see if your hem is level before you sew it up. It’s important to press the new hem carefully.

5. Sew the Hem

How Do You Make a Blind Hem Stitch With Hand Sewing?

It is possible to sew the hem of your jeans by hand. Dress pants benefit greatly from this method since it allows you to sew the hem while concealing your stitches on the outside of the pants. This is the best way to do it!!

Use polyester thread to match the pants when threading the needle. Polyester thread is ideal for stitching clothing since it is strong and can stretch even the least amount. To help you find the right thread, here are my recommendations.

Tie your thread around one of the side seams, right above the folded hem, while the pants are laying inside-out. Ensure that you avoid rubbing your hands against the pants’ outer fabric.

Pull your needle through the fold of the hem, and then make an appealing, long stitch (approximately 1/2′′ or 1cm) and then run your needle through the pressed edge of the hem.

Your pant leg should have a little stitch that just catches the threads.

Stitch a large stitch along the folded sides of your hem, and then a little stitch along the pant leg.

Making the giant stitch along the fold and then the tiny stitch on each pant leg before pulling the needle through and threading allows you to work more quickly.

Continue sewing by hand until you reach the side seam from where you started. The hem should be stitched down with numerous stitches at the same time, and any large stitches should be hidden by the outer section of your pants.

A stunning pair of unstitched pants is now yours, hidden from view on the inside.

How To Hem Pants With A Sewing Machine?

Even if you want to use an automatic sewing machine, you must still cut and measure the hem in the same manner that I did before stitching the hem on the machine.

Sew the hem to the folded edge with a sewing machine.

These days, an arm is almost often included free of charge with nearly every sewing machine. Place your leg over a machine-free arm while the pants are still inside out. Set the stitch length to medium and the stitch width to straight. All around, sew as near to the folded edge as you can.

Preparing for sewing by carefully measuring and pressing your pants can ensure a successful outcome.

How Do You Hem Pants With A Sewing Machine With A Straight Stitch?

Straight stitching at the bottom of the new seam can be used to hem pants on a sewing machine. Start at the inside leg’s side seam, which is a good starting point. If you don’t want the straight stitches to unravel, you’ll need to backstitch the middle and at the finish.

What Stitch Do You Use To Hem Pants?

Hemming pants can be accomplished with either a blind or a straight stitch. Depending on the desired outcome, some people prefer decorative stitching. As a beginner, you should start with a straight stitch and work your way up to blind hems using this method.

What are the benefits of sewing with a blind thread? When paired with pants, a blind hem is the most professional-looking. This is because the stitching is hidden beneath the fabric of the pants. A sewing machine with a zigzag foot, a blind seamstitching, and a one-inch seam allowance for your pants is all that is required to make the stitch.

How Do You Hem Pants Without Thread Showing?

If you opt to sew your pants with a blind stitch, the thread will not be seen. If you want the best results, choose nylon blind stitch thread that matches the color of your pant leggings. Using a one-way zigzag foot, sew a blind hem with your sewing machine.

  • Turn the pants inside out and mark the bottom hem 1/8 inch from the cloth’s edge, and then 1/8 inch further away from that point on the fabric.
  • When pressing the mark, turn the half-inch marker first.
  • Turn under and press the next inch mark.
  • Only 1/8-inch of the hem will be folded over the inside of your jeans when you’ve finished folding it.
  • Sew with pins and needle and thread.
  • Keep the needle of your sewing machine in line with the top of hem’s extended edge during stitching.
  • Blind hem stitch settings on the machine will complete the job, but make sure that the straight stitches are operating on the extended fold of the hem as the zigzag only touches the fabric.
  • As long as you make sure that your straight stitches are being used to sew along an extended fold of your hem, you can use your machine’s blind-hem stitch settings to finish your project in no time at all.
  • Using a hot iron, flatten the hem and remove any wrinkles that may have formed near the stitching.

How Do You Sew A Basic Hem?

It’s not difficult to make hems, even for a beginner. Double fold and overlocked hems are two of the most popular styles of hems.

Double fold hems are ideal for straight and curving hems

  1. After pressing the raw edge by a quarter of an inch, fold and then push it over by a half an inch.
  2. Sew around the open edge that is folded.

Overlocked hems are great for those who have iron and sewing machines as well as bulky fabric

  1. Fold the open edge of the folded fabric and sew around it.
  2. Once the hem allowance is reached, the edge should be pressed up one more time.
  3. The completed edge should be sewn.

How to Hem Pants Without Sewing

To stitch hems on your jeans without the need for an embroidery machine, thread, or needle, use hem tape that can be found in most drugstores. If you want to use hem tape simply turn your pants inside-out then fold them up to an appropriate length. Afterwards, pin and iron the fold, then apply tape to the hem. The fold over should be ironed to seal the seam. As an interim measure, hem tape is designed to survive for a few washings. No, I don’t have an iron. Consider hemming labels, that don’t need the transfer of heat.
