Togia wins US conservation award

American Samoa’s Congressman Faleomavaega Eni Hunkin has congratulated US Department of the Interior 2008 Cooperation Conservation Award winner Tavita Togia of the National Park Service.

Tavita TogiaDuring their meeting in his Washington, D.C. office, American Samoa’s Congressman Faleomavaega Eni Hunkin congratulated Tavita Togia of the National Park Service, National Park of American Samoa, after winning the United States Department of the Interior’s 2008 Cooperation Conservation Award.

According to Faleomavaega, the award is for the “outstanding job he is doing to preserve our rainforest and plant species that are native to American Samoa.”

The award is “recognizing his cooperative conservation efforts by working collaboratively and in partnership with traditional leaders and locals, nonprofits, and government agencies to eradicate invasive species in American Samoa.”

Togia also observed Chairman Faleomavaega as he presided over a hearing of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Asia, the Pacific, and Global Environment, and he was given a tour of the U.S. Capitol.
