Fiji Rugby elects Tuisawau as president

Rewa chief Ro Filipe Tuisawau has been elected to fill the vacant post of president of the Fiji Rugby Union at the organisation’s AGM.

The FRU’s Annual General Meeting proceeded smoothly last Saturday at the Waterfront Hotel in Lautoka with Rewa chief Ro Filipe Tuisawau elected to fill the vacant post of president ahead of former Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka and Suva Lord Mayor Ratu Peni Volavola.

FRU president Ro Filipe TuisawauThe election was conducted at the end of the three-hour meeting that saw Ro Filipe voted in to replace Ratu Sakiusa Tuisolia, who resigned earlier this year for personal reasons.

The other position filled on Saturday was that of FRU Trustee where Dr Eddie McCaig was elected to replace Radike Qereqeretabua, who had also resigned recently.

The Council adopted the FRU Financial Statements for 2007 and heard presentations from the Rugby Development Unit, the High Performance Unit, and a report from the FRU’s Strategic Planning Workshop that was held last November in Suva.

The FRU will later hold a workshop with the 12 major unions to finalise the details of the provincial rugby competitions for 2008.
