New comedy from Three Wise Cousins Director has a Female Focus

Watch the trailer for Hibiscus & Ruthless a new comedy from Stallone Vaiaoga-Ioasa (SQS) the writer and director of Three Wise Cousins, the Samoan film that took the Pacific by storm.

Hibiscus & Ruthless follows the life of Hibiscus (Suivai Autagavaia), whose mum is all of our Pacific mums, in her final year of university where her obedience to her mother’s rules gets put to the test.

One of the rules being "No Going Out & No Boyfriends".

As guys start to go all out to impress Hibiscus, she asks her childhood palagi friend Ruth (Anna Thomas) a.k.a Ruthless, to help keep her on the straight and narrow.

A bit counterintuitive considering her friend’s behaviour, but looks like it’ll make for an entertaining ride.

The female leads, on what looks to be another relatable comedy, are a welcome change from the usual male-dominated combinations when it comes to leads in Pacific films- especially comedies.

Writer and director SQS says his team is looking at late January 2018 for the public release.

“The film is still in post-production at this stage and will have a nationwide but limited release,” he says.

However considering the popularity and reach of Three Wise Cousins he says they are definitely looking to do a wider release than they did with his feature debut.

Locations are still to be confirmed.
