Help people quit smoking with The Fono

New Zealand's largest Pacific health and social services organisation and Pacific Employer of the Year (2016) The Fono are looking for a Pacific Health Promoter - Quit Coach to join their Ready Steady Quit Team.



The right candidate will be required to represent The Fono's Stop Smoking Service, recruit people who wish to quit and coach and support those people to quit.


Training will be provided for someone who has a genuine desire to assist people to stop smoking and want to see New Zealand be completely smokefree by 2025.


As a recruiter (Seeker) you will use the Ready Steady Quit central referral service leads, health networks, community involvements and activities to actively seek out people who wish to stop smoking.


You will take referrals and make direct contact with people who smoke and wish to stop in order to encourage them to enter a stepped, supported programme (one on one or Group) to quit.


You then become the Quit Coach: a service delivery practitioner delivering effective stop smoking outcomes.


Key requirements:


  • A genuine desire to assist people stop smoking and have New Zealand achieve Smokefree 2025
  • Ability to "sell" The Fono stop smoking service message to Fono colleagues, health and community network partners
  • Pacific peoples focus – a Pacific language capability will be an advantage (particularly Tongan)
  • Training provided - you will also gain a qualification
  • Work flexibility – being available when target smokers need you


Full time or part-time position, The Fono will consider all options.
