The Ministry of Pacific Island Affairs have made two key appointments to their Wellington based team as part of their internal restructuring kicked off last year by the appointment of new chief executive Dr Colin Tukuitonga.
Magila Annandale comes into the newly created position of Director of Communications and Relationships, while Wayne Jack is the new Director of Corporate Services.
Magila shares both Tongan and Samoan ancestry and hails from Porirua. She currently runs her own highly successful business, managing nationwide social marketing campaigns. Community service features strongly in Magila’s life. She is currently President of a Wellington branch of PACIFICA, President of Wellington YWCA and Deputy Chair and Communications Convener for the New Horizons for Women Trust. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from Victoria University of Wellington.
“Magila is an accomplished communications executive. She has an outstanding track record in strategic communications, management and extensive experience with Pacific people. She will strengthen our platform of engagement with key community and government stakeholders,” Dr Tukuitonga says.
“The Ministry is an institution with a strong brand story, a story linked to Pacific migration, development and achievement in New Zealand. Dr Colin Tukuitonga is passionate about leading change that will drive results for Pacific communities. I’m excited to be part of his leadership team to help make this happen,” Magila Annandale adds.
Jack brings a wealth of logistical management experience from his roles in New Zealand’s defence services, including a tour of duty as a United Nations Military Observer in East Timor.
“The Director will play a pivotal role in reinforcing management systems, information technology services human resource policies, and in ensuring formal reporting requirements are met,” Dr Tukuitonga says.
A Chartered Accountant, Jack is currently completing a Masters in Leadership. Jack moves from a position at the Ministry of Civil Defence and Emergency Management.
Both Annandale and Jack begin their roles at MPIA in late May.
