ASB Polyfest 2020 Cancelled Due to Coronavirus Fears

ASB Polyfest which was due to take place this week from March 18-21 has been cancelled following meetings between the Polyfest Trust and the Auckland Regional Public Health Service.

The four-day event which showcases traditional music, dance, costume and cultural speech competitions from students in the Auckland region normally attracts around 60,000 attendees.

The Polyfest Trust met with ARPHS on Sunday and again on Monday morning to discuss this year's festival during which it was decided to cancel the event in the “best interest of current public health advice”.

The cancellation follows calls from Auckland Mayor Phil Goff after he conveyed a "strong view" to organisers that the event should be cancelled amid fears it could spread the COVID-19 coronavirus.

In a statement the trust has said they want to give people as much notice as possible so other arrangements can be made including looking at options that will allow student performers to submit performance for judging in order to fulfil obligations in relation to NCEA credits.

More information on the coordination of this to come.
