It’s Niue Language Week, Ko Au Ko E Niue, from Sunday 16th to Saturday 22nd October, which is Niue Constitution day.
There are over 23,000 people who identify as Niuean living in New Zealand, according to the 2013 Census, with 77% of them living in Auckland, 7% in Wellington and 4% in the Waikato.
The Ministry for Pacific Peoples have worked with members of the Niue community this year to develop a free education resource, Ponataki, which will help connect people with the Niue language, culture and identity.
